Rotary Spring Clean 2012

RIBI President Ray Burman says: “If you choose to do no nothing, there is just one thing I ask - Please, at the very least, as you go about your daily business, look around you and become aware of your environs and judge whether improvements can be made. If they can, then let your Club and fellow Rotarians know. If they can do nothing about it then make your local authority aware.Thank you and continue to enjoy your Rotary.”

In 2012, Rotarians across Great Britain and Ireland are inviting communities to work with clubs and tidy our environs, creating neighbourhoods to be proud of during Rotary Spring Clean (RSC).

Who is Rotary Spring Clean for? Every Rotarian, but there is absolutely no compulsion or pressure for any district, club or Rotarian to get involved. The toolbox is especially aimed at those clubs who have never done a Clean Up.

Why a Rotary Spring Clean? There is overwhelming evidence showing that a tidy environment creates a proud and stronger community. Rotary can play a very simple role in strengthening our communities and with minimal effort make Rotarians more aware of the environment.Naturally there are also opportunities for increasing Rotary membership and publicity.

Rotary Spring Clean is limited only by your imagination. Most initially think of litter picking, but it can extend to tidying up an elderly person’s garden through to de-cluttering at home and selling what you don’t want. It can involve cleaning up communities, parks, beaches, towns, villages, natural beauty spots, lanes, streams, ponds, verges, in fact anywhere that needs a little tender loving care. Rotary helps in many communities overseas, now is a chance to do something for communities at home by working with them. Click here for more ideas. Contact RSC co-ordinator Bob Parfitt with your ideas.

RSC officially kicks off on 12th March, the start of Climate Week, and ends on Earth Day, on 22nd April. Clubs and districts are encouraged to carry out their own initiatives at any appropriate time within 2012.

The Community Service Resource Group has put together a series of documents to help members get started, Please use the links on the left hand side.

Rotary Spring Clean Toolbox - the toolbox below has been prepared to give you assistance in identifying appropriate RSC projects and then to help you execute them. There is an overwhelming amount of help on the internet, we have selected just a few. Links are also given to the relevant RIBI project management pages such as risk assessment; insurance and so on.
