MASSIVE FUNDS BEING RAISED ALL AROUND THE COUNTRY

The Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside in District 1190 took over the foyer of Tesco Burnley on New Years Eve from 9am to 4.30pm and collected £4,500 in six buckets for the earthquake disaster fund. We also spent most of New Year's Day counting it. £2500 was immediately sent for Aquaboxes and the rest will go to RIBI's disaster fund.

The Rotary Club of Ulverston in Cumbria who were holding their annual Houghton Weavers Christmas Concert on 30th December, decided to have the exit collection and the raffle proceeds go towards the Tsunami appeal for Aquabox30's. The collection was a staggering £921, the raffle a further £300. With such a response the Club then decided to put the entire evening's profits towards the appeal, making a final amount of £2,250 to buy Aquabox30's. The Club had already responded by sending £500 to the Aquabox appeal.

Glossop collectsThe Rotary Club of Glossop in Derbyshire raised nearly £16,000 from collecting last week at the local Tescos and Co-op stores aided by both Inner Wheel and the local mountain rescue.The public response was fantastic.

The Rotary Clubs of Chichester Priory, Chichester and Chichester Harbour in District 1250 have been jointing collecting in Chichester City Centre, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco’s and have collected £21,000 to date. Further collections are currently taking place and planned.

Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Saxmundham and District in Suffolk organised a bucket collection at four store sites on Friday 31st December and in just six hours raised £6400. Already this sum has been increased by clubs members donating their Christmas card collection money and the raffle proceeds of a socialevent held later the same day.

An update from the RC of Godalming Woolsack on their collection over the last two days outside Sainsburys... A staggering £12,018 was collected with a gift aid potential of a further £1400, plus a donation £1112 from the members of the Puttenham Golf Club. A lottery ticket for next Wednesday's draw was also given by one of the hundreds of people who filled our buckets --- fingers crossed! Our grateful thanks to themanagement at Sainsburys Godalming for their willing assistance.

The Three Rotary Clubs in Southport (Southport , Southport Meols and Southport Links) were joined by members of the local Lions Clubs to raise funds from the public at two Supermarkets this past week. With some funds still to be counted, pledges to be received and another day's collection on Tuesday, anticipated amount will be well over £12,000. A great tribute to the public's generosity and great cooperation andfriendship between Rotary and Lions.

Following an announcement in the local Lynn News and Eastern Daily Press the Rotary Club of Swaffham in Norfolk undertook a two day bucket collection with the support of Waitrose. Between 10am and 4pm on Friday and Sunday well over £5,000 was raised for Shelter Boxes and Aqua Boxes thanks to the generosity of the local communty. President Nigel Chambers praised the remarkable response from our community who have reacted magificently - "a great two days and a big thank you to the public and to Waitrose"
