REPORTS RECEIVED Friday 7 January 2005
Dronfield
Rotarians wasted no time in setting up their response to the Tsunami
disaster. A collection outside a local supermarket on Friday 31st
Dec generated £2,700. With the addition of £1,350
from our pre Christmas Santas Sleigh and further street collections
over the following days we have now collected nearly £6,500.
This has been used immediately to purchase two Shelter Boxes,
13 AquaBox 30's and 80 Standard Aqua boxes which are being filled
with humanitarian aid by our local schools who have responded
by promising to have the box filling completed within five days.
The
20 members of RC of Sherwood Forest have filled 12 Aquaboxes and
delivered them to the Wirksworth depot. Two members collected
today at the Netto supermarket in New Ollerton,
and raised £173. The Club has already sent £500 to
the District 1220 fund, and other donations are coming in to support
the appeal.
The
Rotary Clubs of Dorchester, Dorchester Casterbridge
and Dorchester, currently get press coverage locally and radio
every day – sometimes more than once, with daily interviews
on local radio. Raising some £55K from a town of 16,000
is something magnificent.
In
a phenomenal swell of distress and sympathy for the surviving
victims of the Earthquake and Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the
people of Devon have donated thousands of pounds in response to
collections arranged at very short notice by the Rotary Clubs
of Devon District 1170. Clubs are reporting unprecedented amounts
raised so far - £11,500 from the Kinsgsbridge
clubs, £20,000 from Totnes and Ashburton
& Buckfastleigh, £11,300 from Axminster,
£10,000 from Preston and Torbay
Sunrise, £10,000 from Tiverton,
£14,000 from Teignmouth, over £16,000
from the Exeter clubs, £10,000 from
Bideford Bridge, £3,500 from Bideford,
£1000 from Braunton, £3,000 from
Seaton, £3,000 from Bovey Tracey,
£3,000 from the Crediton clubs, £5,300
from Holsworthy, £8,500 from Sidmouth
and £9,000 from Newton Abbot. Ivybridge
raised £2,600 locally and raised £15,000 at a Plymouth
Argyle football match last Saturday for it is hoped the football
club will do a match funding.
Immediate
Past District Governor of District 1190, Robert Wright, made an
appeal for help on Radio Lancashire the day after the disaster
and, as a consequence, has mobilised the public in Lancashire
to donate over £7,000 and extracted promises to fill over
150 Aquaboxes for the appeal so far.
Great
Yarmouth Haven RC (District 1080) were out collecting
in the run up to New Years Eve at Tesco's B & Q and several
nightclubs and raised a staggering £13,502.86. The club
had already allocated £2,450 from club funds to purchase
five ShelterBoxes. Total £15,902.86. A further 25 ShelterBoxes
have been purchased and are already either in country or on the
way.
ROTARY'S GRATEFUL THANKS GO TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC
FOR THEIR AMAZING GENEROSITY ACROSS THE COUNTRY
