International in Great Britain and Ireland is launching a partnership
with the Association of Children’s Hospices to offer Rotary
support to the children’s hospice movement throughout these
islands.

RAISES US$88 MILLION TO FIGHT POLIO

As
part of Rotary’s 20-year commitment to end polio by its
100th anniversary in 2005, the humanitarian service organization
has announced that its 1.2 million members have successfully raised
over US$88 million; surpassing its original goal of US$80 million.

than 20,000 children with special needs from all over Great Britain
and Ireland will join the 14th annual Rotary KidsOut Day on Wednesday
11th June 2003. Rotary KidsOut Day is a day out promoted by KidsOut,
the national charity for children with special needs and supported
by Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.

NUMBER OF BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS IN ONE DAY!

Rotary
Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland organized a record number of
free blood pressure checks on Saturday April 5th , in communities
throughout the country. More than 130,000 people had their blood
pressure taken by qualified medical staff, courtesy of Rotary
International in support of The Stroke Association. President
Tony de St Dalmas made the announcement at the RIBI annual conference
in Blackpool.

THE PRINCE OF WALES OUTLINES WORLD WATER PROBLEM AT ROTARY CONFERENCE

The Prince of Wales has outlined the enormous extent of the global
water and sanitation problems - which affect a third of the world's
people - and discussed the practical solutions to these issues.Tthe
Prince of Wales was speaking at The Rotary International Conference
in Blackpool where he congratulated Rotarians for their support
for WaterAid, which this year, is the preferred International
charity of Tony de St Dalmas, President of Rotary International
in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI).

Friday 11th April, HRH The Prince of Wales will attend The Rotary
International Conference in Blackpool. The Prince of Wales will
thank Rotarians for their support for WaterAid which provides
safe water and sanitation to the world's poorest people and which,
this year, is the preferred International charity of Tony de St
Dalmas, President of Rotary International in Great Britain and
Ireland (RIBI).

are teaming up to Make a Difference by offering free blood pressure
checks and information to communities throughout the country on
Saturday April 5th.

TAKE
A WINTER WALK TO HELP THOSE WHO CAN'T
Rotary
to Mobilise a Million Walkers in Service Week in February

Members of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland will
be urging their communities to take a winter walk in week commencing
23rd February, 2003. Each walker will be asked to pay £1
subscription for the global polio eradication programme. The walk
is not intended to be a marathon but a short walk of up to three
miles; this could be around a public park, a school playing field,
a football ground or even indoors on a treadmill! Local Rotarians
hope to enlist the support of schools, sports clubs, church groups,
youth groups, local organizations, families and friends.

PRESSURE CHECK DAY APRIL 5th 2003 ATTEMPTS RECORD

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is planning
a Blood Pressure Check Day on Saturday April 5th, 2003 in support
of the UK's leading charity, The Stroke Association. Rotary Clubs
are organizing free blood pressure checks in their communities
by qualified medical staff. It is hoped that a record number of
blood pressure readings will be taken on this day. These will
be arranged in church halls, community centres and other suitable
locations.

ATHLETES ENJOY 21st ROTARY DISABLED SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS

More than 300 disabled athletes competed in the 21st Rotary
Disabled Sports Championships held at the Midlands Sports Centre,
Coventry on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November.

WESTON OBE HONOURED BY ROTARY

Falklands Veteran, Simon Weston OBE, was honoured by the
Rotary Club of Wollaton Park on Wednesday 13th November 2002,
when he was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship by President
of Rotary International in Great Britain & Ireland, Tony de
St Dalmas.

HELP IMMUNIZE 14 MILLION CHILDREN AGAINST POLIO IN ETHIOPIA
November 2002
Fourteen million children under the age of five were immunized
against polio in Ethiopia during the National Immunization Day
(NID) on 25 October. Rotary members administered the drops of
oral polio vaccine to children, assisted parents in getting their
children vaccinated, delivered the vaccine to immunization posts,
transported health workers and recruited fellow volunteers.

joined forces to deliver a truly spectacular and captivating sight
at the 2002 Lord Mayor's Show - the colourful procession, traditionally
held on the second Saturday in November, in celebration of the
appointment of the new Lord Mayor.

Eleven Rotary World Peace Scholars, who have recently enrolled
at Bradford University Peace Centre MA programme, will be given
an official welcome at a lunch on Saturday 2nd November.The scholars
are from Argentina, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Nigeria, Mauritius,
Sri Lanka, and USA, and represent a wide range of occupations
including education and training, diplomacy, journalism, law and
the military.

JOINS THE STROKE ASSOCIATION TO COMBAT KILLER DISEASE

Rotary International in Britain and Ireland is joining the
UK's leading charity The Stroke Association to increase awareness
of the killer condition and to raise funds for prevention and
research. Stroke is the single main cause of severe adult disability
in England and Wales and one of the biggest causes of death in
this country.

LAUNCH NEW CAMPAIGN TO FULFIL PROMISE TO ERADICATE POLIO

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is launching
a new campaign today to raise additional funds required to eradicate
polio by 2005. The campaign, 'Fulfilling our promise:eradicate
polio' will last for one year from July 1st 2002 with the goal
of raising £3 million.

The new President of Rotary International in Great Britain and
Ireland is Tony de St Dalmas from London. On July 1st he became
