Designs for Planting Crocus Bulbs
Designs for Planting Crocus Bulbs
You've bought your bulbs now what are you going to do with them?
There are many different ways of planting the crocus:
naturalisation - randomly scatter the corns (bulbs) in your chosen, prepared, area. For an ideal showing use approximately 75 corns per square meter. Holes do not have to be dug, but the soil will need turning over and the corns planted the correct way up - noses of the corns pointing towards the sky! Cover with soil or turf...
formal design - for a dense display, plant approximately 150 corns per square metre. The instructions above apply and a sea of colour should be your end result in February...
container - for those of us wanting to grow a few flowers and see them in our home or out on the patio, crocuses will grow well in any kind of container. Fill with potting compost, again plant with the noses to the sky and cover; remember to water! The container angle is great for children - they can choose anything they like such as Wellington boots, old saucepans and so on then just watch and wait; they'll be delighted when the green shoots come through
