Thank you and well done to Rotary clubs and districts which took part in and made a success of the biggest sporting event these islands have seen for years, the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Rotarians were involved in a wide range of activities:
- Sponsorship - Some Rotary clubs sponsored young athletes who are competing in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Accompanying children - Clubs arranged for great days out for youngsters to the Games.
- Clean up - Rotary clubs rolled up their sleeves and go stuck in by cleaning up the Olympic Village after the event
- Torchbearers - Rotarians recognised for teh contributions to communities carried the Olympic flame through towns and cities to welcome the Olympic and Paralympic Games to these shores.
The Games may be over but there are still opportunities for Rotary and for the many volunteers who helped to make the 2012 event such a success. Volunteers were the life-blood of the Games and this legacy is set to live on.
Rotarians will find there is a record number of people willing to help improve the lives of others, why not invite them to Rotary? With helping hands and an abundance of energy, these volunteers and Gamesmakers could make a big difference to communities.
